Looking to get out of your workout rut before beach season?
Here in Kaiserslautern there is actually a workout that will shake up your boring gym routine, push you to your limit, and make you feel like a rock star.
Called POUND, the class uses weighted drum sticks – called Ripstix ™ – to rock out and work up a good sweat to a playlist with a great beat. The moves, choreographed to go with each song – real jams like a remixes of Missy Elliott’s “Get Ur Freak On” and current hits like Shawn Mendes’ “Stitches” – target problem areas like arms, abs, and thighs.
The class is popular back in the U.S. and Wini Dyer, who became a POUND instructor in 2015, was the first to bring POUND over to Germany.
She teaches at several locations in Kaiserslautern and the surrounding area, including Healthfit 24 in Mackenbach, Activsports in Wiesbaden, as well as local military bases.
Go-Ktown recently talked with Wini about the benefits of this unique workout option.
“Pound is unlike any other fitness workout,” she said. “With Pound you’re summoning your inner drummer and everybody wants to be a rock star. It is the only workout where you finish the class without realizing it. Not to mention, you will finish dripping with sweat and feel that you just ran a marathon.”
Wini said she became a POUND instructor because it gives her “the freedom to be rebellious” and to express herself. She also finds the classes to be incredibly motivating because of the high energy of all participants.
Newcomers don’t need to be scared to give this type of workout a try. In fact, Wini says they only need to know two things.
“One, never feel intimidated because other participants are only focused on themselves. Two, Free your mind and let yourself experience something new. Next thing you know, you are having a blast, jamming to good music.”
