Mr. Lian is the premiere sushi restaurant in the area, known for their fresh creations and creative presentations.
If you’ve ever asked anyone in Kaiserslautern for a sushi recommendation, chances are, they recommended Mr. Lian.
And while there are sushi buffets all over town claiming to be the best, there is only one restaurant where you can find the real over-stuffed rolls, dripping in spicy mayo and eel sauce, with a side of wasabi. They call their sushi-style “fushion,” but the name isn’t what counts. It’s the high-quality fish and the fact that they don’t use rice as a filler to make up for a lack of other more substantive ingredients.
Mr. Lian has an extensive menu. For date night, couples can enjoy the Kama Sutra platter for two. It comes with five types of sushi and uses dry ice to put on a show when it is served.
The Crispy Tiger and the Tuna Sashimi are also crowd favorites. Service is a little slow due to the immense preparation that goes into each handmade roll and the crowds that are almost always swarming this place.
Mr. Lian even makes a splash beyond its sushi. The Thai Basil Lemonade is incredibly refreshing and pairs well with the spice of the restaurant’s dishes. They also serve pho that gets rave reviews.
Décor is modern, but sparse. In the evenings, the lights are turned low to give it more of a date night atmosphere. During the day, the large porch and restaurant are more suitable for families and casual gatherings with friends.
Mr. Lian is on the pricey side for Kaiserslautern, but guests never leave hungry.
Mr. Lian has been located out near Einsiedlerhof since 1990, but it just opened its second location in downtown Kaiserslautern this summer. Reservations are recommended at both locations.
