Located in the north of Kaiserslautern, this swimming pool is the largest outdoor pool in Germany.
Opened in 1908, the pool is the oldest of its kind in Germany. It measures 165 meters long and its water surface is about 10,000 square meters, according to Wikipedia. The water temperature of this gigantic pool ranges from 18 to 25 degrees Celsius, perhaps because its water supply comes from natural deep wells.
For those who like diving, there is a 3, 5, and 10 meters platform as well as a spring board. Just about the middle of the swimming pool there are water slides for the enjoyment of children as well as adults. The use of inflatable is allowed, so you can bring your water floating mats to relax in the water.
There is a well-maintained large lawn area to relax in the sun and play games with the kids. For toddlers, there is a baby pool with overhead cover from the sun. Also, a play yard with swings, a play house, and other balancing games build over soft white sand.
For the older kids and adults, there are two beach volleyball courts, a soccer field, a basketball hoop, and table tennis. If hunger arrives, there is a small kiosk that serves hamburgers, sausages, French fries, and other foods. Beer, soft drinks, and ice cream are also available.
For the more sportive, there is an adjacent trail that will take you through a nice route through the forest and back to the swimming pool; ideally for a good run or bike ride before taking a dip in the cool and refreshing swimming pool.
On hot days, make sure to arrive at the swimming pool early enough to find a good parking place and a good spot to lay and enjoy the sun. Even though the place is enormous, the amount of people there in hot days is considerable.
Opening times are daily from 0800 to 2000 hours, except on Tuesday which opens at noon.
